Infant Jesus of Prague

The statue of Infant Jesus of Prague comes from Spain (16th c.)The Discalced Carmelites received it as a gift from Polyxena of Lobkowitz in whose family the statue was handed down as a wedding gift. Following the death of her husband Zdenek Adalbert of Lobkowitz (chancellor) , Polyxena gave the statue to the monastery of Carmelites in 1628.



Visual aspects of the statue

47cm high, coated in wax, core made from wood and wrapped in linen. right hand is raised in a blessing, the left hand is holding a globe ( a symbol of rule over the world). The statue is ornamented with a crown from the pope (Benedict XVI.)
Most of the gowns of the Jesus are gifts. (300) The changing of the gown ís a non-public event. The colour of the dress depends on the liturgical calendar.
white colour for Christmas and Easter
purple for the lent and advent
red -  martyrs
blue -  the Virgin Mary
green - normal day.

The Church of Our Lady of Victory and St. Anthony of Padua
Combination of renaissance and early baroque.Built 1611 - 1613 by Lutherans. After the White Mountain loss - protestants were expelled and the church was given to the Discalded Carmelite order.
During the 17th century was rebuilt. At that time there was a big monastery adjacent to it. But this monastery was abolished by Joseph II in 1784 and the Carmelites had to leave. They returned in 1993.
The original monastery building is now the seat of the ministry of Education. The Carmelites reside in the new convent and a former parish house.

7 - Main Altar - Victory Arch 1723, among the war trophies is a copy of the painting of the  Battle of White Mountain from 1622, statues Elija and st. Theresa (left) , st John of the cross and Elisha (right)
8 - Altar of st Joseph 1670, painting by Brandl 1720, statue of Our Lady Aparecida, patroness of Brazil (2007)
9 - Altar of Infant Jesus of Prague - 1776 , on the left Our Lady, on the right St. Joseph, glass case with 20 little angels from silver
10 - Altar of st. Joachim and st. Anne 1661- Mary's parents are praying to god for a child, Brandl 1716
